Hellfire Bay is a great recreational spot; most importantly, it is family-friendly. The beach offers pleasant, leisurely walks with great and picturesque views. The Bay is named St Elmo’s Fire (St Elmo’s Fire is a bluish flame-like electrical discharge that occurs above the masts of a ship.)

Things to Know About Hellfire Bay

The little Hellfire Bay beach faces south of the bay entrance and extends along the Bay’s northern shore for 600 m. The average amount of waves it receives is 1 m in the east, increasing to 1.5 m at the western end.

The Bay beach originates with a permanent tear against the eastern rocks. Then the beach continues a wide bar widening by 50 m into a tear conquered structure in the west.

The Hellfire Bay beach is backed by a good vegetated 15 m high western end. The end of the west of the 17 km long section of the Bay coast is bordered in the east by Mississippi Point and formed by the Cape Le Grand. The beach confiscates a lined stream and wetland that breaks out across the beach’s western end.

A high and prominent granite peak of 345 m high, Mount le Grande backs up the Cape Le Grand. A 12 km of irregular granite shoreline containing four beaches surrounds the base of the point. All four beaches are accessible only by foot or boat when the waves are low.

The Hellfire Bay beach is a secluded beach set between massive granite rocks. The entire beach boasts some of the most striking and impressive turquoise ocean views in the west of Australia. At a distance sits the Recherche Archipelago, with silhouettes of the island that pops through the ocean water.

Unfortunately, the scenic Bay does not allow animals for certain reasons. Standard park entry fees are applied for Cape Le Grand National Park. Moreover, there are options for wheelchair accessibility for specially-abled tourists. However, no pets are allowed at the beach.

Fifteen campsites can house tents and ideal camper trailers, caravans, and campervans in the Camp Le Grand Campground. Additionally, you can launch tiny boats in the area for fishing. However, it is easy for the small boats to bog down in the dry and wet sand of the bay beach.

There are also facilities of a camp kitchen with gas barbecue and burners. You also get cold and hot running water accompanied by a sink for dishwashing. Moreover, there is also the availability of showers with solar water heating.

Nearest Town and Beaches From the Bay

The nearest town to the Bay is a town named Esperance. The major industries at Esperance are tourism, fishing, and agriculture. The place experiences wet and cool winters and dry, hot summers.

There are five important national parks near the town, and Cape Le Grand National Park is 20 minutes from the heart of the main city.

The nearest beaches from the Bay beach are Lucky Bay, Twilight Bay, Great Ocean Drive, Blue Haven Beach, Rotary Lookout, Wharton Beach, and Salmon Beach.
